Repair methods for common faults in automotive starter circuits

The car starter can convert the electrical energy from the battery into mechanical energy to drive the engine flywheel to rotate and start the engine. The electric motor is the main component inside the starter. Its working principle is the energy conversion process based on Ampere's law that we came across in junior high school physics, that is, the force acting on a current-carrying conductor in a magnetic field. Today, the editor has collected for everyone common faults of car starter circuits and their repair methods

When the start button is pressed, the starter makes a noise and the engine does not ignite. Here, it can be judged in several situations:

The noise made by the starter is not loud. At the moment the circuit is connected, the brightness of the alarm light dims, indicating a significant fluctuation in the circuit voltage. It is necessary to check whether the battery is discharged and whether the terminals are properly connected. Automobile identification

If the mortar makes a loud noise but the brightness of the alarm light remains unchanged, the starter should be disassembled and inspected. The key position is at the connection point of the auxiliary excitation circuit. Poor contact here will cause a hard collision between the starter gear and the ring gear.

③ The engine has a tendency to rotate. If there are too many bubbles in the acid of the battery, it is a sign that the starter is overloaded. After a major overhaul of the engine, it must first undergo a hand-cranking test. Only when it doesn't feel very heavy can the starter be used. When an engine experiences a bearing seizure and shaft seizing fault and the operator forces it to start, it will cause the starter to be scrapped and the battery to burst.

(2) Press the start button, but the starter does not work. First, check if the transmission is in neutral position. If it needs to be placed in neutral and the starter still does not work in neutral, you should check the neutral switch. It is installed at the main shaft for gear shifting of the transmission. You can use the resistance detection method to check the quality. When in neutral, the two pins are connected, but when in gear, the two pins are not connected, indicating that the switch is good and needs to be adjusted correctly. You can also short-circuit the two pins. If the circuit is normal, it means the switch is faulty or the adjustment is incorrect. If not, continue to check other aspects of the circuit. The ignition switch and the start button can also be tested by the short-circuit method, but the contact time must be controlled to prevent damage to the starter.

The last thing to remind everyone is that since the car starter is designed for short-term operation, the current passing through the starter winding is very large during operation (usually several hundred amperes). If it is to be started again, it should be stopped for 10 to 15 seconds. If it is to be started more than three times in a row, it should be stopped for more than 5 minutes after checking that there is no fault in the starter circuit. Otherwise, it will not only be harmful to the battery, but also cause the temperature to rise excessively due to the large current passing through the magnetic field coil and armature coil for a long time, damaging the insulation of the coil and making the starter prone to burnout.
